OutLaw at the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in Fort Worth, Texas, is a social, political, and philanthropic student organization serving the LGBT, questioning, and allied straight communities at the Texas Wesleyan School of Law. Our goals include establishing an inclusive support network within the law school, working with local and national LGBT oriented organizations and connecting with LGBT friendly members of the DFW legal community.

Course Titles and/or Descriptions

Gender, Sexual Orientation and the Law: Contemporary Legal Issues (3)

This course explores the historical, comparative, statutory, and especially constitutional dimensions of law's regulation of sexuality and gender. Students read primarily case law, supplemented with statutory law and articles. Topics to be considered include the critiques and defenses of marriage; the legal and social implications of categories such as bisexuality, intersexuality, and transsexuality; the relationship between feminist and gay politics; and the impact of sexual orientation and gender challenges on the workplace, military policy, family law, and education. Prerequisite: Constitutional Law.

Additional Information

Applicants and students are welcome to express their sexual orientation and/or identity. The Office of Admissions encourages LGBTI students to apply to the law school and to address their orientation or identity to the extent that the applicant is comfortable. The Office of Admissions is sensitive to the nature of the disclosures and will maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Students are further invited to share their LGBTI orientation and identity through the OutLaw student organization, in the classroom, and to the extent that they are comfortable. OutLaw hosts, on an ongoing basis, speakers and programming open to members and to the broader law school community.

The administration and the law school continue to invite and welcome all LGBTI students.
