Additional Information
As the University of Florida harmonizes efforts to become one of the top public research institutions, a commitment to diversity is clearly illustrated in the University Work Plan to improve student and faculty diversity. Students, faculty, and staff at the Levin College of Law are part of an active and diverse community. Student, faculty, and staff interactions with others from varied backgrounds and experiences lead to a better education and healthier understanding of how the world works and contribute to valuable dialogue in our increasingly global and multicultural world. For these reasons, one of the core missions at UF Law is to actively try to fill our classrooms with a group of students of diverse race, religion, class, belief system, and sexual orientation. Applicants are encouraged to describe their diverse backgrounds and multicultural skills in their Diversity Statement. More specifically, organizations like OUTLaw, Pride Student Union (PSU), and Gator GSA provide lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students and their supporters an outlet to express and discuss their views. Members work to increase community awareness of issues relating to gender and sexual orientation and hold regular meetings and numerous awareness events throughout campus.
