Introduction
Located in Jacksonville, Florida, Florida Coastal School of Law offers both JD and LLM degrees. The JD program is one of the largest in the United States by student enrollment. Its high bar exam pass rates, outstanding clinical program, and forward-thinking academic technology draw students from all over the United States. The LLM program is the first of its kind to be offered fully online to lawyers educated outside of the United States who are interested in learning the US legal system. In its first academic year, the LLM program had students located in 13 different countries. The JD program is accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA), and the ABA has granted its acquiescence to the LLM program.
Law School Enrollment
The JD program has approximately 1,700 students. The LLM program, which is in its first academic year, has 47 students.
Physical Facilities
Florida Coastal's LLM program is offered entirely online; there are no graduate students in residence. The LLM program offers substantial electronic resources to its students. Live, interactive classes are conducted in Elluminate Live!, a videoconferencing platform. All Elluminate Live! lectures are taped and are available through Desire2Learn, the learning management system. All LLM students receive access to LexisNexis, Westlaw, the substantial electronic resources of Florida Coastal's library, and other electronic study resources. Examinations are administered entirely online using a secure exam administration platform.
LLM Programs/Areas of Specialization
The Masters of US Law degree is the only specialization offered at Florida Coastal School of Law.
Florida Coastal School of Law is an ABA-approved law school. Florida Coastal's Masters Degree (LLM) in US Law is the first of its kind to offer all courses in an online, interactive classroom setting. Students can interact with distinguished US law professors while learning the US legal system. Live classes are scheduled for the convenience of working students, including weekend classes. Outside of class, you can participate in online discussion forums and conduct research in LexisNexis and Westlaw, the two premier online legal research databases. The curriculum consists of subjects that are frequently tested on US bar exams, including Constitutional Law, Evidence, and Contracts and Sales. Examinations are administered online on weekends. The degree, consisting of 26 credit hours, can help a foreign law graduate to qualify academically to sit for the bar exam in select US jurisdictions.
Tuition for the 26-credit-hour program is $14,950, a fraction of the cost of residential LLM programs. Students can pay tuition in four affordable installments. Applications are processed through the Apply Online tab of the LLM website. Florida Coastal Law is now accepting students to begin classes on September 12, 2011.
