The University of La Verne College of Law, located just east of Los Angeles in inland Southern California, is situated in a growing metropolitan region of more than 6 million people. Founded in 1970, La Verne Law is a part of the University of La Verne, which enjoys a 121-year reputation for providing a sound learning experience built on values, diversity, lifelong learning, and community service. La Verne Law's faculty members are leading experts in their fields. Many have experience in either the public or private sectors and boast backgrounds as diverse and highly regarded as they are. In the classroom, they infuse instruction with practical knowledge to provide a firm understanding of both legal theory and application. Outside of class, they remain accessible to students to provide guidance and assistance as needed.
La Verne Law provides a rigorous legal education rooted in the foundational elements of law and its practical applications. The law school offers both full-time and part-time programs leading to the Juris Doctor degree.
Both programs are designed to provide grounding in legal theory, lawyering skills, and ethics: areas critical to the modern practice of law. Successful completion of the JD degree at the University of La Verne College of Law requires completion of a total of 88 units.
Students interested in a career in business or public administration can take advantage of La Verne Law's Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration (JD/MBA) and Juris Doctor/Master of Public Administration (JD/MPA) dual-degree programs with the University of La Verne's College of Business and Public Management. Applicants must meet the admission standards of each degree program and should consult with each college for specific entrance requirements.
La Verne Law also offers students the opportunity to participate in cocurricular activities including the University of La Verne Law Review, as well as Moot Court, Trial Team, and Alternative Dispute Resolution competition teams.
La Verne Law requires all students to take part in a Lawyering Skills Practicum course that offers the chance to simulate the practice of law. The law school also houses two campus-based clinics that allow students to work directly on legal issues with real clients, under the guidance of accomplished attorneys. The Disability Rights Legal Center focuses on disability civil rights litigation and special-education issues for low-income and minority families. The Justice and Immigration Clinic allows students to represent asylum applicants who cannot return to their home countries because of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
Outside of class, La Verne Law students are given the opportunity to do externships with government agencies including the District Attorney's Office and the Public Defender's Office, judges, public interest organizations, and legal nonprofits.
La Verne Law is ideally situated with easy access to freeways and airports, and within reach to the many dining, shopping, entertainment, social, and outdoor activities intrinsic to the culture of Southern California. A 64,000-square-foot campus center is designed to give students ready access to technology, and it includes a state-of-the-art computer lab and on-campus Internet access via a combination of hardwired and wireless connections. Classrooms are equipped with the latest audiovisual technologies, and La Verne Law's moot courtroom includes a custom-designed audio-video system used for trial and appellate exercises. A large, grassy park provides shade trees and picnic areas.
La Verne Law's library boasts more than 300,000 print and microform resources, including federal and California statutory law, court opinions, administrative rules and regulations, major treatises on a variety of legal topics, form and practice books, numerous legal periodicals, and access to a huge variety of electronic databases. The Law Library also serves as a selective depository for federal and California government documents, including legislative materials. Reference librarians, expert legal researchers who hold both JD and MLS degrees, are available for consultation Monday through Friday. The Law Library also hosts a free series of short courses allowing law students the opportunity to obtain a Certificate in Legal Research.
La Verne Law seeks out students who demonstrate a desire and ability to apply themselves to the rigors of law school and to embrace the professional standards inherent in the practice of law. To fit the needs of every student, the law school offers both part-time and full-time programs.
The law school's commitment to personalized assistance extends to its admission process. The Admissions Committee considers a variety of criteria in the selection of applicants, including LSAT performance, academic ability, educational and professional achievements, motivation for entering the legal profession, work ethic, diversity, leadership skills, and moral character.

La Verne Law alumni have been successful in obtaining positions with law firms, corporations, government agencies, and public interest organizations. Many have started their own thriving practices; some have earned the honor of serving on the bench.
La Verne Law students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of extracurricular activities. They may take part in a number of student organizations, or in some cases establish their own per school policy. Most student activity is both social and career focused, reflecting a broad array of interests, cultures, and lifestyles. The organizations on campus include the Alternative Dispute Resolution Association, the American Constitution Society, the Armenian Law Society, the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association, the Black Law Students Association, the Criminal Law Society, Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, the Family Law Society, the Federalist Society, the Hispanic National Bar Association, the International Law Students Association, the J. Reuben Clark Law Society, Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Pride Law Alliance, the Public Interest Law Foundation, the Society of Legal Studies and Business, the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, the Women's Legal Society, and the Student Bar Association.
A vast majority of students at La Verne Law receive some kind of financial assistance to pay for their law school education. The Office of Financial Aid works closely with students to walk them through the process of applying for student loans, grants, and work-study programs. One-on-one financial counseling is provided to all students to ensure that they complete law school with the least amount of debt possible. Applying for assistance will not jeopardize a student's chance for admission. Generous merit- and need-based scholarships are also available to qualified students.
