Domestic-Partner or Same-Sex Marriage Benefits

On September 14, 2001, the Trustees of Indiana University passed a resolution approving the provision of benefits to same-sex domestic partners of Indiana University employees and students who demonstrate that they are in a “verifiable committed relationship.” The university will implement the benefits listed for qualified, registered domestic partners and qualified children of domestic partners, effective April 1, 2002.

Additional Information

We have an open and welcoming environment. LGBT students feel comfortable and safe both on the campus and in the town.

The university allows students to use preferred names as their primary names on their university identification cards, and preferred names can be printed on class rosters.
