LGBT Student Organization(s)

We connect incoming students with organizations that may be of interest to them and that may assist them through their transition to McGeorge. Lambda is one of the chartered student organizations that we connect incoming students with. In true McGeorge form, Lambda members are always happy and willing to assist incoming LGBT and ally students in their transition to law school. Lambda also offers education and support to the McGeorge community around issues affecting the LGBT community both on and off campus—issues like the need for unisex bathrooms, which McGeorge provides to its students, faculty, and staff.

Additional Information

McGeorge School of Law is proud of its rich, diverse, and inclusive community. Our students regularly make mention of how supported they feel by one another as well as by the administration and faculty. The McGeorge community is a family in a very real sense. Applicants have many opportunities to get connected to our community well before they arrive on campus. We ask several questions on our application which allow for students to self-identify as members of a variety of groups, including LGBT status.

McGeorge provides financial support to its students through a robust endowed scholarship program. The Jeffrey K. Poilé Memorial Civil Rights Endowed Scholarship provides support to LGBT students and allies who demonstrate a commitment to the advancement of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender rights. Scholarship recipients must also demonstrate academic ability and financial need. The Jeffrey K. Poilé Memorial Civil Rights Endowed Scholarship was developed to commemorate the life of the life partner of McGeorge Professor Lawrence Levine. Poilé passed away in 1992.
