Summary of Position

Reporting to the Associate Dean or Director of Admissions, this position is primarily responsible for: processing, reviewing, and evaluating applications for admissions as well as execution of prospective and admitted student events and management of the campus visit program. The Assistant Director will also participate in the recruitment process and counsel prospective and admitted students. This position will play a significant role in the recruitment of a diverse class including assisting with the coordination of visits and events with BIPOC serving institutions and high school pipeline visits as well as building relationships with law school student affinity groups and assisting the Director of Diversity & Outreach on pipeline projects.

Essential Functions / Characteristics
Admissions Outreach & Events

  • Assist in the planning, management and implementation of admissions recruitment and related events. 
  • Serve as the point person for all prospective and applicant campus visits including management of the online tour schedule, matching students with an appropriate tour guide, arranging for classroom visits, and scheduling meetings with compatible faculty and administration with the support of the Associate Director.
  • Assist the Associate Director in execution of all aspects of in-person and virtual prospective and admitted students events, including invitations, room reservations, menus, volunteers, and staffing, for admissions in-person events such as Open Houses, Accepted Student Day, and other outreach events with the support of the Operations and Communications Administrator
  • Meet and counsel prospective students during virtual and in person visits.
  • Reach out and advise newly admitted students in their decision and transition to law school.
  •  Assist the Associate Director, Director of Communications, and Associate Dean to support the School of Law and Admissions Facebook, Twitter, and other social media presences with support from the Student Admissions Counselors.

Diversity Functions

  • Assist with coordination of admissions diversity and pipeline events in conjunction with the Associate Director and the Director of Diversity & Outreach.
  • Partner with law school affinity groups to assist in all admissions recruitment events.
  • Assist Director of Diversity & Outreach on major projects as needed.
  • Assist in facilitation of LEAD Pre-Orientation Programming recruitment and execution.
  • Maintain local information guides for prospective and incoming students paying particular attention to information for minoritized student populations, utilizing a team of Student Admissions Counselors.

Administrative Duties

  • Ensure the maintenance and custody of pertinent and confidential applicant documents.
  • Oversee the daily processing of inquiries generated from the web and by email.
  • Provide support in processing applications and communications through the Unite database.
  • Liase with the Dean of Students office to assist with Orientation.
  • Be part of the team that reads and reviews files for admissions.
  • Respond in a timely manner to all telephone and general law admissions email inbox. 

Supervisory

  • Manage the Student Admissions Counselor & Diversity Outreach Coordinator Program, which entails overseeing a team of student workers, to set expectations assign work, and review performance, including creation of tour schedules, monitoring the creation of the  law school's social media channels, and the staffing of admissions and diversity events.

Additional Function

  • Travel to recruitment events all over the United States and Canada including night and weekend events.
  • Serve as a backup tour guide to Student Admissions Counselors. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline and one to three years' experience in higher education or a legal setting. 
  • Advanced knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to diversity issues as they relate to students in a law school or in a professional school community. 
  • Strong interpersonal and counseling skills including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse students.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including high attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced University environment.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines. 
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure, to function effectively in a team and service-oriented environment. 
  •  Strong knowledge of social media.
  • Ability to work weekends and nights, as need. Valid driver's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree.
  • Prior experience in databases and CRMs.
  • Work experience interacting with the public, preferably in an academic setting.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Salaries for new hires at Roger Williams University usually fall between minimum and midpoint salary ranges. 
For this position that is $52,686 - $63,456
