Summary of Position
Washington and Lee University School of Law invites applications for the position of Director of Academic Excellence and Professor of Practice to begin July 1, 2023. This is a non-tenure-track faculty position with a three-year presumptively renewable contract.
Responsibilities Include:
- Design, implement, and administer a program of academic excellence and support benefiting all law students, especially those students in their first and second year of study
- Design and administer a pre-orientation program for incoming students
- Facilitate workshops in the fall and spring semesters for 1L students
- Advising and coaching students on an individual basis
- Work closely with other faculty members, especially those involved in bar skills and legal writing, to provide comprehensive instruction and support
- Advise faculty on topics such as providing helpful feedback, academic advising, bar coaching, and integration of skills and learning strategies into academic coursework and co-curricular efforts
- Teach courses designed to introduce, reinforce, and develop skills to enable students to be successful in law school and beyond
- Teach courses to ensure the analytical, reasoning, and writing skills necessary for success in the 1L and 2L years
- Other duties consistent with the overall goals of the Law School, including, but not limited to, advising students, serving on law school committees, and teaching other courses that support the law school curriculum
