Frequently Asked Questions

If I’ve already taken the LSAT and want to take it again, what would it cost?

The cost of the LSAT is the same for both first-time and repeat test takers. For the August 2024-June 2025 testing year, LSAT registration costs $238.

If I choose to retake the LSAT, would I get to take LSAT Writing again for free?

If you have already completed an LSAT Writing sample, you do not need to complete LSAT Writing again. However, if you would like to retake LSAT Writing as well, please contact LSAC’s Candidate Services team at LSACinfo@LSAC.org or 1.800.336.3982.

For your LSAT to be considered complete, you only need one writing sample on file — either from an earlier paper-and-pencil administration of the LSAT or from LSAT Writing. In order to see your score or have your score released to law schools, you must have a completed writing sample on file.

Can I purchase LSAT Writing as a standalone?

No, we are no longer offering standalone LSAT Writing. For questions, please contact LSAC’s Candidate Services team at LSACinfo@LSAC.org or 1.800.336.3982.
