Introduction
Loyola Law School Los Angeles opened its doors in 1920 and is among the first law schools established in Southern California. Loyola's curriculum is one of breadth and depth. Its evening program is one of the most highly regarded in the nation, and its academic support programs are among the most innovative in the US. Loyola Law School was the first ABA-approved law school in California with a pro bono requirement for graduation, and today we remain committed to legal ethics and the public interest.
Location
The campus is in downtown Los Angeles, the center of legal activity and commerce in Southern California. This proximity to the downtown area is extremely advantageous for Loyola students because of the convenient access to federal and state courts and to the central offices of many major law firms.
Loyola's location has the added benefit of being close to major sports, concert, and award venues, like the Staples Center, Nokia Theater, and Kodak Theatre. Professional sports teams who play downtown include the Lakers, the Dodgers, and the Kings. Cultural centers such as the Natural History Museum, the Getty Center, and the Museum of Contemporary Art are all nearby. Performing arts organizations like the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Opera, and the Center Theatre Group have also made downtown their home.

The Faculty
Loyola Law School students benefit greatly from the faculty's vast experience and their accessibility. There are 80 full-time professors, including 3 former US Supreme Court clerks, several former federal prosecutors, and many alumni from the largest national and international law firms. Their areas of expertise cover more than 120 legal specialties ranging from accounting, administrative law, and admiralty law to white collar crime, wine law, and youth education law, to name just a few. Students have a multitude of opportunities to interact with their professors in class and during office hours and special events. Students are even invited to join the professors at their faculty workshops.
Campus Facilities
Loyola Law School occupies an entire city block. A series of contemporary buildings surround a central courtyard making the campus feel both intimate and open. Designed by award-winning architect Frank Gehry, the campus has been the subject of much architectural acclaim, locally and internationally.
Just as impressive as Loyola Law School's architectural design is its use of state-of-the-art technology. All classrooms are fully equipped with the newest audio-video equipment and teaching tools. Each classroom seat has access to an electrical outlet for laptop computers. Almost every class is digitally sound-recorded. Professors may make the recordings available to students through a course website, and many do. The entire campus is a wireless Internet hot spot.
Housing
Los Angeles offers a wide variety of neighborhoods and housing options. The campus is easily accessible from any part of the Los Angeles area by car or by public transportation. There is ample parking on campus in a private parking garage, and a private Law School shuttle service operates between campus and the nearest Metro Rail station a few blocks away at 7th and Figueroa Streets.
LLM Programs/Areas of Specialization
Loyola Law School offers two LLM programs:
LLM in Taxation
Loyola's widely recognized LLM in the specialty area of taxation prepares students for the challenge of tax practice by designing individual courses that enhance practical skills and an overall curriculum that allows students to focus on particular areas while gaining a comprehensive general education in tax law. Classes are kept small with an average enrollment of 16 students in required courses and 10 in electives. The faculty is comprised of the best advanced tax instructors available anywhere. Most are nationally recognized experts in their fields. Students must complete 24 units to graduate and may attend on either a full-time or a part-time basis.

LLM (for Foreign-Trained Attorneys)
Loyola's LLM (for Foreign-Trained Attorneys) is designed primarily for graduates of law schools outside the US; however, US law school graduates are welcome to apply. Students will create an individual plan of study after consulting with an academic advisor and gaining approval. Foreign-trained attorneys are required to take two courses: (1) Introduction to American Law, and (2) American Legal Research and Writing for Foreign Lawyers. Students choose their remaining courses from the JD curriculum, excluding any courses required for JD graduation. Students must complete a minimum of 24 units, 12 in each semester. This is a full-time program.

Admission Requirements
Admission to both LLM programs is extremely selective and highly competitive. The applicant's academic record, professional experience, and letters of recommendation, as well as the rigor of the institutions awarding the applicant's baccalaureate, law, and other graduate degrees, are all taken into account.
