Students on law school balconyThe School of Law at the University of California, Davis is a national center of legal learning characterized by the scholarly excellence and ambition of its faculty and student body, as well as an abiding commitment to being a diverse community dedicated to the welfare of its constituents and the world around it. It is fully accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools. The school is housed in a newly expanded state-of-the-art building, King Hall, named for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in honor of his efforts to bring social and political justice to disadvantaged peoples.

The Davis campus, a major research university consistently among the country's top 20 in research funding, is an hour from the San Francisco Bay Area, 15 minutes from Sacramento, and within easy reach of major recreational areas such as Napa, Carmel, and Lake Tahoe. The campus occupies 3,600 acres within the bike-friendly and charming college town of Davis.

The law school's idyllic surroundings and close proximity to the Bay Area and the state capital create abundant opportunities for a well-rounded educational experience. The campus offers a full range of excellent graduate and professional programs.

UC Davis has a large campus. Recreational facilities include two outdoor swimming pools, an athletic training center, basketball courts, outdoor playing fields, a bowling alley, pool tables, and a video game center.

Housing

Limited on-campus housing exists for graduate law students. There are numerous housing opportunities close to campus. The International Law Programs staff will assist you with your housing.

LLM Programs/Areas of Specialization

General LLM

Group photo from Commencement 2010The one-year LLM degree program is a general LLM degree with the flexibility to select from a wide range of courses. Students' transcripts show their areas of academic focus. A Certificate in Environmental Law and a Certificate in Public Service Law are available as part of the one-year LLM degree program. The law school's areas of academic strength are business law, criminal law and procedure, environmental and natural resources law, health care law and bioethics, human rights and social justice law, intellectual property law, international law, and public interest law.

Student Services and Organizations

The Law Students Association serves the student body at King Hall by overseeing and distributing funds to numerous student organizations, improving student life through new initiatives, and planning annual school-wide events. The Law Students Association also serves as a liaison to the administration, alumni, and the community at large. There are an additional 43 student organizations active in the law school.

Career Services

The International Law Programs staff works closely with individual students to support their career ambitions. UC Davis School of Law participates in the West Coast LLM Job Fair every February.
