Introduction
Georgetown University Law Center offers an unparalleled opportunity for lawyers to broaden
and deepen their understanding of law. Our extraordinary faculty combines leading scholars
with experienced lawyers, judges, and government officials. The depth of our faculty allows the Law Center to offer more than 400 courses and seminars covering everything from foundational issues
in jurisprudence to cutting-edge issues of the most sophisticated legal practice. Our talented
LLM students bring exemplary academic credentials and practice experience from throughout
the United States and around the world.
Georgetown's campus is located in the heart of Washington, DC, within walking distance of
the US Capitol, the Supreme Court, the US Tax Court, and other government agencies and
courts. Washington, DC, is a beautiful, international city that is the seat of the US government
and home to major international organizations such as the World Bank, the International
Monetary Fund, and the Organization of American States. The many governmental, international, and nonprofit organizations located in the city also provide Georgetown LLM students with varied opportunities to do externships as part of their LLM study.
The Law Center's location in Washington, DC, facilitates the recruitment of our LLM students throughout the United States and abroad. Each year, the Office of Graduate Programs assists our LLM students seeking positions in private law practice and with accounting firms, international organizations, and major corporations. Many of our students choose to work for government agencies, not-for-profit organizations, foundations, and think tanks. Our Graduate Career and Professional Development counselors work solely with LLM students, organizing networking events, scheduling on-campus interviews, arranging annual job fairs at which students can meet numerous prospective employers in one day, and providing numerous other resources throughout the year.
Law School Enrollment
Georgetown Law has a total student enrollment of approximately 1,600 full-time and 350 part-time JD students, and approximately 400 full-time and 200 part-time LLM students. The LLM program enrolls approximately 450 new LLM students each fall, about half of whom earned their first degree in law outside the United States.
Physical Facilities
Georgetown Law's campus sits on two city blocks, and is composed of five buildings and two greens. The Law Center's McDonough Hall, with its lecture halls, seminar rooms, faculty offices, bookstore, student dining area, and lounges, is the academic center of the campus. The Edward Bennett Williams Law Library houses the fourth largest academic law library collection in the nation. The library also provides students with access to web-based services providing the most advanced research support available. The Eric E. Hotung building brings all the major components of Georgetown's international programs under one roof and includes the John Wolff International and Comparative Law Library. The Sport and Fitness Center features a four-lane lap pool, cardio- and weight-training equipment, basketball and racquetball courts, and a café and lounge area. The Gewirz Student Center provides housing in apartment-style accommodations; the Student Health Center is located in Gewirz as well. While the majority of students living in Gewirz are in the JD program, a number of LLM students live there each year.
Housing
The Gewirz Student Center provides housing for approximately 300 students in apartment-style accommodations. While most students living in Gewirz are in the JD program, a number of LLM students live there each year. The majority of LLM students live off campus, in apartments around DC, or in northern Virginia or Maryland. The Law Center's location near Metro (subway) and bus lines makes commuting easy from around the DC metro area. The Office of Residence Life provides resources to assist students in their search for off-campus housing.

Student Services and Organizations
Georgetown Law sponsors a host of vibrant student organizations that are as diverse as our student population. Our 75+ active organizations provide students with opportunities to participate in social, educational, spiritual, professional networking, and service related activities. Each organization maintains a unique identity and selects their leadership and programming. Student organizations
often collaborate with other student groups and departments to host events that bring life to the Georgetown Law community throughout the year. The Office of Student Life provides training, advising, resources, and support for all recognized student organizations. Some of the most popular student organizations for LLM students are the Foreign Lawyers at Georgetown (FLAG) and the LLM Tax Council.
Career Services
Georgetown University Law Center offers career advising and professional development resources to LLM students through Graduate Career and Professional Development, a team of attorneys with significant legal experience in the public and private sectors. Our advisors are committed to providing students with quality information, advice and service in the areas of career advising, job-search strategies and opportunities, and professional development. Graduate Career and Professional Development members provide LLM students with a multitude of resources to aid in the job-search process, including, but not limited to, a comprehensive professional development website; regular drop-in sessions and small-group workshops organized by members of the Graduate Career and Professional Development team to provide assistance in preparing résumés, cover letters, e-mails, personal statements, and business correspondence; extensive online resources, including a database of job postings and job-search resources; networking events, speaker series, résumé collections for law firms, and so on; interview and networking skills and other professional development training; and two LLM interview programs that bring employers together in a centralized location to interview LLM candidates. In addition to the services provided by Graduate Career and Professional Development, students may use the resources available through the JD Office of Career Services (OCS) and the Office of Public Interest and Community Service (OPICS).
Georgetown Law LLM graduates have found positions in private practice with law and accounting firms, major corporations, international organizations, government service, academia, and foundations and research organizations. Many graduates say that their Georgetown Law experience was the cornerstone of a successful and rewarding career, as well as one of the best years of their lives!
