We’ve chosen to support 826 Boston at the 2019 LSAC Annual Meeting and Educational Conference. This organization provides after-school tutoring, field trips, creative writing workshops, in-school tutoring, help for English Language Learners, and in-depth publishing projects for students. Its mission of helping traditionally underserved students is key to LSAC’s mission of increasing diversity and access to legal education. Read on to learn more about 826 Boston and why we believe it’s important to support its efforts.

What Is 826 Boston?

826 Boston is a nonprofit youth writing and publishing organization. The charity seeks to empower traditionally underserved students, ages 6 to 18, to find their voices, tell their stories, and gain communication skills to succeed in school and in life. Each of 826 Boston’s free programs seeks to empower students to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in their individual voices.

About 826 Boston’s Programs

College Essay Academies

Students learn the basics of writing strong college essays at 826 Boston’s College Essay Academies, held in late August and early September. With the help of a trained tutor, students complete a first draft of their personal statement.

After-School Tutoring

Four days a week, 826 Boston’s main tutoring center allows students to work one-on-one with trained tutors to complete homework, read aloud, and get a head start on publishing their writing. Since its founding, the organization has grown to offer evening and weekend tutoring.

What’s a Dollar Worth?

Any donation to 826 Boston assists the organization in its mission to help young writers. A $25 donation, for example, funds one week of lined paper, No. 2 pencils, and eraser caps at the group’s Writers Rooms in Boston Public Schools, while a $500 gift pays for an entire class to attend a Storytelling and Bookmaking Field Trip.
