Does your law school have a nondiscrimination policy that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation?

Fordham University reaffirms its policy of nondiscrimination. The University is an academic institution that, in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, does not illegally discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, age, gender, national origin, marital or parental status, sexual orientation, alienage or citizenship status, veteran status, or disability.
 
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits discrimination on the basis of handicap. No otherwise qualified person shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination in any programs or activities of the University solely on the basis of physical or mental disability. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 provides that no person shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subject to discrimination in any education program or activity. A Section 504 and a Title IX compliance officer is available to address any complaints alleging discrimination on the basis of handicap or sex.
 
Fordham University does not knowingly support or patronize any organization that engages in illegal discrimination. This may include a ban on purchase of goods and services, or the use of facilities for such organizations.

OUTLaws Mission

  1. Create a supportive environment for LGBT students and allies at Fordham Law School.
  2. Plan and host events – social, educational, and professional – to bring together the OUTLaws community, both current students and alumni; provide resources and guidance to current students, particularly 1Ls; and address relevant issues to the LGBT community;
  3. Liaise between the administration and OUTLaws members to address questions,concerns, and needs.
  4. Keep students informed about LGBT-related and diverse job and internship opportunities in the legal field.
  5. Facilitate connections between current students and OUTLaws alumni.
  6. Establish a social media and online presence for OUTLaws, such that prospective students can learn about the LGBT community at Fordham Law School.

Fordham offers Faculty and Administrators benefits that cover both same-sex spouses and Legally Domiciled Adults (domestic partners) the same as opposite-sex spouses.

Fordham offers the same health insurance to student same sex spouses as they do for opposite-sex spouses.  Also health insurance is offered to domestic-partners of students.

Fordham University School of Law is a very welcoming and supportive place for LGBTQ students, faculty, and staff. LGB and gender-queer/transgender students are enrolled in the law school and are quite successful. Our Admissions Office encourages gay and trans students to self-identify on their applications, looking at this aspect of diversity from a positive perspective.

Numerous faculty members and senior administrators are out lesbians and gay men. All are fully supported at work and in their personal lives. Engaging in LGBTQ scholarship, teaching, and service activities is encouraged, and same-sex partners are provided health benefits and welcomed to the law school community.

Fordham has a unisex (individual) facility that is open to all students, staff, and faculty.

Fordham is located in the heart of NYC, the LGBTQ capital of the country, where most everyone, from employers to local stores and restaurants, are interested in courting the LGBTQ community. It is the perfect setting for Fordham's rich and vibrant LGBTQ community.
