LGBT Course(s)

The Law of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Seminar will consider sexual orientation and gender identity within a historical and evolving context of the law. To begin, we will compare and contrast the interplay of the gay rights movement with the civil rights movement. Most importantly, we will focus on legal developments relating to sexual orientation and gender identity arising under four areas of civil rights law:

  1. liberty (particularly as it relates to private sexual expression and lewd conduct laws);
  2. equality (including popular attempts to legislate sexual morality, workplace equality issues, and public accommodation issues);
  3. expression (including coming out/speaking out, media treatment of the issues, and antihate legislation, as well as limitations and conflicting interests); and
  4. family (including same-sex marriage and civil unions, parenting, and counseling same-sex couples in preparing for death and disability).

Domestic-Partner or Same-Sex Marriage Benefits

Employees and students can enroll their spouses/domestic partners and dependent children up to age 23 for medical and dental coverage.

Additional Information

Lewis & Clark Law School is very supportive and accepting of LGBTQ students and employees. We historically have enrolled a very representative student body including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and straight students.
