Summary of Position

The Associate Director of Law School Advancement serves as a major gifts officer for the School of Law and develops meaningful relationships with alumni who provide major philanthropic support for the School of Law. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Law School Advancement, the Associate Director of Law School Advancement is responsible for managing a portfolio of approximately 150-175 major gift prospects. Chief responsibilities include identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of these major gift prospects.



The Associate Director assists with the activities of alumni leadership groups, including the Law Council and the Young Law Alumni Council, as well as with law alumni events. The Associate Director works in collaboration with the Dean of the Law School, the Vice President for University Advancement, the Law School Advancement office, and the University Development office to achieve goals.

Additional Information

Essential Functions:

 

  • Develops and manages a portfolio of 150-175 major gift and high-end annual giving prospects to ensure giving at the major gifts level of $50,000+. Special attention will be paid to consistent donors, new donors, leadership giving donors of $5,000 or more, lapsed donors from a previous year, donors in all reunion classes, prospects identified through research or rating systems as promising, and planned giving prospects.

  • Personal visits with 15 prospects/donors per month, with, on average after the first year, 40 percent being cultivation visits, 30 percent being solicitation visits, 20 percent being stewardship visits, and 10 percent being discovery visits.  Must be able to travel frequently.

  • Records each visit or communication briefly after each interaction and defines at least one next step agreed to by the prospect and the officer.

  • Closes at least 15 solicitations a year beginning in the second year.

  • Works with the Planned Giving Office and seeks to increase the number of planned gifts to the School of Law.

  • Along with Donor Relations and current School of Law stewardship efforts, ensures that all donors with endowed funds receive stewardship reports, and looks for opportunities to create personal interactions between the donors and the fund's recipient(s). 

  • Assists in the implementation of special on-campus events including, but not limited to, Law Council meetings, Law Volunteer Training, Law Reunions, stewardship events, and off-campus events in chapters with large numbers of law alumni. 

  • Performs other duties related to Law School external relations, as assigned.
