LSAT Inbox

Welcome to the LSAT Inbox! This is a weekly blog series that answers frequently asked questions about the LSAT®. We encourage you to check back often for answers to more questions you may have as you prepare for the test.

I’m trying to register for the August 2023 LSAT, but I’m not seeing the option on the LSAC website. The earliest date that’s available to book is the October 2023 LSAT. Are there limits on how many people can take the test in a month?

There is no limit on the amount of test takers for any given LSAT administration. You may register for the test up until the registration deadline of your preferred testing date. You can find links to register for all LSAT administrations through June 2024 on the Upcoming LSAT Dates page on our website. This page also lists registration deadlines for each administration.

I read online that you’re not allowed to have any other electronic devices in the testing room. Someone was going to provide a space for me to take the online exam, and I’m almost certain there will be other electronic devices in there but all unplugged. Would that still be an issue?

The guideline is that you may not take the LSAT in a room where there are tablets, laptops, or additional computers not being used to take the exam. Your cell phone must be powered off and placed out of your reach and in view of the camera at all times, and the room must be cleared of other electronic devices like digital watches or additional cellphones.

If you are testing in a room with large electronic devices that cannot be moved, such as a TV, you will need to cover it with a blanket or towel. Please visit the Getting Ready for Your LSAT Exam page on our website for more information about items that are prohibited while taking the remotely proctored LSAT.

If you’re in doubt, your proctor will guide you through the room scan so that your area is compliant prior to the start of your test.

Is there a fee for changing testing dates?

LSAC understands that test takers may need to change their LSAT registration to a different testing administration. This is allowed and is free as long as the test taker meets the test date change deadline. For the August 2023 LSAT, this deadline is June 29.

After the deadline passes, test takers will be charged a fee for changing their test date. More information about deadlines and fees for test date changes can be found on the Upcoming LSAT Dates page on our website.
